Oakend Wayfarers

Oakend Wayfarers is a Men’s Supper Club which celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2010.  Meetings are held monthly from September to May, usually on the last Wednesday of the month.  Members gather at 7.45 p.m. for dinner at 8.00 p.m. which is followed by a guest speaker.

Membership

A warm welcome is extended to all men, whether members, visitors or guests.  Open meetings are held in December, Holy Week and on other special occasions when ladies are also invited to attend.

Subscription

Members pay £8.00 per meeting, which covers the cost of the meal and any speaker’s expenses.  In order to assist with catering, members are asked to inform the Catering Co-ordinator of their intention to attend, at the latest by the Sunday before the meeting.

Programme

Wayfarers aims to have a varied programme of speakers, as can be seen from the 2011-12 programme, which is reproduced below.

Over the past few years it has established a tradition of a summer outing incorporating the AGM. One of the early ventures used Weybridge Methodist Church for the meeting and lunch before moving on to the Brooklands Transport Museum. However since then all the AGMs have been held on the coach on the way to the outing venue. This has proved very successful in terms of time management and the effective and efficient running of meetings. It was even rumoured that one AGM was started and completed whilst the coach was negotiating a traffic roundabout…. Maybe a slight exaggeration.
